Ensure the carriage rods operate smoothly. Sometimes you may notice a loud chattering noise or hear a grinding when the carriage moves from side to side. What is needed is to clean the slider rods, and lubricate them as well. Just turn your printer off, access that assembly and wipe the carriage rails with a lint-free cloth and warm water. Dry off the rails, and then add one tiny drop of synthetic oil to the carriage rails. You can wipe the oil so each side of the carriage rail is lubricated. (For the correct oil and more detailed instructions, see your owner’s manual.)
Update your printer drivers. When you update your printer driver, you will ensure your printer operates correctly. You will also get the latest features for your printer from the manufacturer. Simply go to the website of the manufacturer in order to find the driver you need according to the operating system you have on your computer. There you’ll find directions to download and install.

It is well know that what looks great on your monitor doesn’t necessarily print that way. Especially if we are talking about images, so the following are some tips for better image printing:

* When you are scanning the images from photographs it is better to save them in either tif, or eps format. These image formats will preserve the colour and sharpness of your pictures the best.

* File formats like gif or jpg compress the pictures colour and pixel resolution and this can cause color shifts and blurriness. Since jpg and gif are the most predominant image formats on the web, it follows that it's not a good idea to simply lift an image from someone's website and use it in your layout.

* You should scan your images using a resolution of 300dpi at the final dimensions you intend to use them so that your colors will look smooth, and hard objects will look sharp. In other words don't scan at 300dpi and then enlarge the picture by 200% in your layout program!

* If you are using pictures from your digital camera they will work just fine if they are jpgs; the quality of jpg images from digital cameras seems to be much better than jpgs that are used on the web. You must do the math to make sure that it is high enough in pixel resolution though. For instance, if your camera puts out a typical image of 1280 x 960 pixels at 72dpi you get about 17" x 13" of photograph (at 72dpi); this is the same amount of detail as an image which is 4" x 3" at 300dpi so it's safe to reduce or enlarge that image in Publisher up to about 4" x 3" in dimension.

How to Fix Back Cover Open Error Message From Brother DCP 7020 Printer

Answering a readers request to solve the following Error problem: "My Brother DCP 7020 laser printer won't work. It keeps saying the back cover is open, please close it. But the cover is closed! What's up with that? "

If the Brother DCP 7020 was turned off and then turned on again with a paper jam in the back of the machine, you’ll find a message in the LCD saying: “Back Cove Open”. So in order to solve the problem follow this steps:

Step 1: Open the front cover
Step 2: Pull out the drum unit and toner cartridge assembly.
Step 3: Open the back cover.
Step 4: Pull the tab toward you to open the rear chute cover.
Step 5: Pull the paper jammed inside out of the fuser unit. If by any chance it cannot be pulled out easily, push down the tab with one hand as you gently pull out the paper with the other hand.
Step 6: Close the back cover.
Step 7: Insert the drum unit and toner cartridge assembly back inside.
Step 8: Close the front cover.

This should clear the error message, but in case it is not power off the Brother DCP 7020 laser printer.

Note: This message may appear even if you don’t have a paper jam. The reason is that you probably installed a new toner cartridge or drum unit wrong. So reinstall your toner cartridge and or drum unit properly.

However obviously that might not clear the problem completely so here is another thing you can try….

There is a black guide plate that opens partially when you open the back door, there's a sensor flag on that cover that goes through the right side to a sensor, the arm on the guide needs to move freely, and the flag on the right must pass through the sensor inside a hole on the right... so go back to the back door and try to look for the sensor, it has a small lever that goes back and fort check if it is not misaligned.

Honestly I love going to greeting card stores and spend hours reading all the different cards. Most of the time I find that even thought there are thousands of cards, none of them say exactly what I need to convey. So I always end up in front of my computer designing the cards myself.

Cards can be used for all types of occasions; Birthdays, Holidays, Announcements and Halloween of course!! You’ll always find that people love getting printed cards, don’t get me wrong, e-cards are wonderful but impossible to decorate with them or to pin on your cube at work.

Let’s get started then with some tips and ideas for printing great cards.

Creating the Card:

Obviously there are plenty of software applications that have greeting card features such as PageMaker, InDesign, or any other desktop publishing software.

• Pick a greeting card format or template
• Choose graphics.
• Select a font.
• Create a consistent look.

Proof and print the greeting card:

When it comes time to print your final greeting card, don't forget that final proof. Before putting your creation on expensive photo paper or greeting card stock print a final proof in draft mode.

• Check text and graphics and layout.
• Check margins and alignment.
• Fold your proof and make sure everything lines up correctly.
• If printing multiple copies of the final card, first print just one at high quality on the desired paper. Check color and ink cartridge coverage.

Make a 3D Card

While some photographs have a 3D look to them, you can really make them pop off the page by printing it twice and layering the two photos on top of each other.

Printing Tips:

Make sure you preview your mask before printing. It takes a few minutes more but you'll be sure it is all with in printing borders.

Use thick paper. Obviously in order for your mask to hold on through the scary night use cardboard paper.

Full color is better than draft mode. Don't try to save ink because the effect will not be the same. If you are taking the time to make your own mask, print it full color all the way.

Adding contact paper after printing before adding the strings will make your mask stronger and why not water proof, who knows what might happen during the night, trick or treating can get wet sometimes.

Cleaning Your Copier - What to Do

Keeping your copier clean will avoid numerous visits by the copier repairman. You can learn to service your own machine and save a bunch of time and money. You can get supplies from around the office, or you can get a copier repair kit that will have all you need within it.

First of all, it’s a good idea to have a vacuum cleaner available to use to vacuum up loose toner. Whether your copier is in a small home office, or in a larger company location, certainly a vacuum will be around to use.

Other supplies include a paintbrush (16 inches), some isopropanol, compressed air in a can, glass cleaner, lubricants and clean cotton cloths. When you get the isopropanol, ensure it is 99%. Most of those sold are less, so getting the isopropanol in a repair kit will solve this problem.

Vacuum around the copier to get up any toner spillage. Then vacuum the inside. Use the paintbrush to brush any excess toner inside the machine towards the vacuum nozzle as you vacuum.

Hard-to-reach areas can be cleaned out with the compressed air. But don’t attempt this until after vacuuming because otherwise toner will blow around.

Lubricating oil will be used to clean the lens shafts, scanner, slide rails and the pads. You’ll find you get less jams after you use the oil.

Use the glass cleaner and cotton cloths to clean the scanning glass. You want the softest cloths possible so as not to get even a minor scratch on the glass.

Lasers are part of our daily lives, from your CD and DVD player to laser surgery to heal cancer, erase wrinkles and the possibility of reading this post because Internet basically is more than a million lasers.

For us at Inkjetsuperstore Canada the most important way lasers have been used is in Laser Printers obviously. How does the laser printing process work?

Inserting the paper into the laser printer and send out the printing order at that moment the drum surface is charged positively while the drum rotates.
A laser beam sends a light onto the drum surface during the rotation, and then the area exposed to the laser beam forms an electrostatic image to be printed.
The toner particles are charged and then attracted to the electrostatic image on the drum.
While this is happening the paper is passing through the drum where it receives negative charges causing the toner to stick to it from the drum surface to the paper.
Once the image is transferred to the paper by the static electricity it is fixed into it by heat and pressure given by the heat roller and the pressure roller within the fuser assembly

Today the spotlight is on Ink Cartridges and their truth. Can you handle the truth?

The ink cartridge is the component of an inkjet printer that contains the ink and that needs to be replaced once the ink runs out they are probably the most expensive part of owning and running a printer. There are two kinds of inkjet systems:

The thermal inkjet system holds the ink in partitions it could be one, two, or more depending on the type of printer. The ink is inside a reservoir along a heating element with a small metal plate or resistor. When you send the order to print the resistor heats up through a small current and the ink right next to it vaporizes into a very small air bubble and goes into the nozzle. Then the nozzle gets filled with bubbles they push a droplet out and it goes from the nozzle to the paper, and that is all done faster than it took you to read the explanation.

Tip 1- Whatever paper stock you purchase for your business cards, ensure you only buy quality stock. Cheap paper stock will defeat the purpose of what you are trying to accomplish here – professional business cards that will impress those who receive them and are a good representation of your business.

Tip 2 - When you go to pick out your business card stock, however, remember that using glossy paper or magnetic paper in a laser printer may damage your printer. Ensure your stock is compatible with your printer type.

Tip 3 - Where a card with a blank background will be cheaper and take less ink to print, for the nicest cards it’s best to have a photo or color logo picture on the card. If you do include a photo with gradient colors, you should use glossy paper for printing. This makes the output look much better. (But don’t use that glossy paper with your laser printer.)

Tip 4 -Be sure to calibrate your printer before printing. Otherwise the rows can end up slightly offset as they come out. Use the Scale Field in the calibration process to assist in avoiding this problem.

Tip 5 - Using high quality ink or toner is of great benefit in the printing process, too. Use OEM models, compatible models or remanufactured toners and ink cartridges. Don’t try to refill your cartridges yourself. This will end in disaster.
